1. Don’t start with all the high hands.

This is the most common mistake that players make and it causes almost all the losses in poker. When you are playing poker the more common mistake is that you get involved with hands that are typically not good. Hands like QTs, KQ, 83 and so on that players normally wouldn’t play in Hold’em, but are good hands in Omaha. Players usually justulfook them because they are high. If you are going to win at Texas Hold’em you need to be involved with and play good hands.

2. Develop you own strategy.

One of the most important things that will make you a successful poker player is to develop you own strategy. In order to become successful you will have to learn how to think in certain ways and you will have to do this on a much more disciplined basis, than the average poker player. Every successful poker player has developed their own strategy or technique through complex mental calculations, through observing their opponents, through playing many hands and through gambling on hand outcomes. You can get a pretty good idea of how good a player you are by how disciplined you are. Every successful poker player has a very strong hand and they make decisions intelligently.

3. Know your opponents.

Oftentimes, you will have to play against your opponents rather than the other way around. What this means is that you will have to mix your strategies up, so that you are harder to read and you are easier to influence. If you are involved in many pots, then you will have a pretty good idea of how your opponents play. You’ll know when you can get away with a bluff and when you should probably fold. You’ll know when to play your low hands and when to fold. Most importantly, you will know when to get out of the hand with a mediocre hand. This is because you are amongst friends and there is not much to lose, whereas if you are playing poker on the internet and playing against people that are not necessarily your friends, then you will have a lot of ideas to consider.

4. Work out what type of poker player you are.

It is important to work out what type of player you are and what type of hands you play. If you are a tight player, then you will probably play only good hands, and fold lots of hands. If you are loose, you might play mediocre hands, but you will also play hands that are good, due to the fact that you raise pre-flop with them. You will probably bet out with good hands, but not really want to call raises with bad hands. So you have to work out what type of player you are, and what type of hands you play, to optimise your poker bankroll and win bigger amounts of money.

5. Move out of the poker room.

If you are finding that your pokerrepublik bankroll is taking a serious hit, then it is time to take some action and move out of the poker room. If you are addicted to poker then you should consider moving out of the poker room every time you are losing some money, until you are back to even. Typically a good player will tell you to stop, but unless you are a MIT drop-out with excellent memories, you will want to keep playing until you are broke.

So what amount of money do you need to have in your bankroll? Well, I like to play a lot of no-limit poker. With all the money that I make, I can currently play at two tables at the same time. Traineransky says that you should be ready to play four tables at a time, but for the sake of this article we will say 3 tables. With four tables you would win roughly 70 big blinds per hour. With three tables you are typically looking at 20 big blinds per hour, and two tables is no big deal, you might be looking at 15 or even 10 bb/hour occasionally. By playing with four tables you will be able to make more money per hour than if I was playing with just one table at the same time.

However, you also need to have a big enough bankroll. Ergo, you should have between 15 and 20 buy-ins for each of the tables you decide to play at. If you are not prepared to do this, then you will not be able to succeed.

There are also other considerations when you are playing at different tables. You may not win big pots in multi-way pots, so you will have to be very patient. You also need to pay attention to your position at the table, if you are to make money in multi-way pots. Finally, if you loss your chips in a multi-way pot, you probably want to get back in the pot with the minimum amount.
